Having a Safety Manual in itself does nothing if it just sits on the front seat of your truck. Just like a contract, it needs to be referred to frequently, used, and followed in order carry out your business activities in the safest possible manner, protecting workers and the public by preventing careless incidents causing injury, property damage, or environmental impact…. All of which result in unnecessary delays and cost the company, and possibly the worker, money.
Not only should your manual be used, but it needs to be reviewed and modified frequently. In order to do this, you should be actively tracking the results of your program and modifying it where needed.
By tracking your incidents and quantifying results in a systematic format, you will quickly be able to determine where your program needs improvement.
For instance, if after the first three months of implementing your HSE program, your statistics indicate a lot of hand injuries, you can re-look why those hand injuries are taking place, and then modify your processes, add machine guards, change PPE requirements, or increase training in order to prevent future similar injuries.
I know this sounds like a huge pain in the ass, but it doesn’t have to be.
Not sure where to start? I have a full HSE Manual (suitable for Prime Contractors, and can be easily modified for Subcontractors), complete with an easy-to-use excel-based HSE Administration System to track your incidents, categorize them, and quantify your results… complete with fancy-shmancy charts. I have also included a spreadsheet to track your employee’s training certificates that highlight specific tickets that are within 60 days of expiring.
I have done the hard stuff for you. By purchasing my HSE Manual and Administration Program, I will customize it and make it pretty with your company logo, and work with you to develop any trade-specific procedures. I will show you how to use it and can even help you populate the data and provide you with monthly reports.
Don’t wait until it is too late to implement an effective HSE Program! Let me help you get your company off on the right foot, meeting OH&S legislation requirements, and keeping in line with industry standards.
